Lowen • clay
began as a personal return to making.
Hi, I'm Emma and I'm an Artist potter based in Cornwall. I am also an Art teacher and have been teaching for the last 12 years but am now rediscovering my own creative practice. During a period when I needed to slow down and find steadier ground, working with clay became a way to reconnect — with my hands, my body, and a quieter sense of creativity. The process offered rhythm and focus, without pressure or expectation.
Lowen is a Cornish word meaning joyful. For me, it represents a gentle, rediscovered joy — not loud or performative, but steady and grounding. The central dot in the name Lowen • clay represents a breath, making space for the joy that clay brings.
In my little studio, clay is approached as a supportive practice rather than a pursuit of perfection. I work slowly and intentionally, allowing time, repetition, and material process to lead. The pieces that emerge are shaped by this pace — calm, functional, and quietly considered.
Lowen • clay is not about productivity or outcomes. It is about showing up, staying present, and allowing creativity to be restorative. Whether the work remains personal or is shared through small collections, the intention stays the same: to make with care, and to honour the value of slow, grounded making.

Wheel-Thrown Pottery
Each piece of pottery is wheel-thrown and each one tells its own story of mindful, intentional hand crafting.

Glazes
Coloured glazes are carefully chosen, layered and tested to ensure each piece has its own identity. Colour is an important part of the making process and is always developing.

Lowen • clay studio
I work out of a small studio in St. Austell in Cornwall. The perfect space to reconnect and create beautiful pottery.
