Layers of glaze shift and react in the kiln, creating surfaces that echo the man-made landscapes of the china clay industry — scarred earth, chalk-white mounds, mineral-rich pools, and weathered textures shaped by industry and time. Matt and gloss surfaces sit side by side, catching light differently, inviting both the eye and the hand to explore. Subtle variations in tone and texture emerge unpredictably, much like the layered terrain of clay pits and spoil tips, reminding us that beauty can be found in altered landscapes. The contrast between smooth glaze and raw clay creates a tactile dialogue, encouraging touch and presence. In this way, glazing becomes an act of transformation — a meeting of earth, fire, and memory — where surface is not merely decorative, but experiential. These will be available Wheel Martyn Museum shop in St. Austell.
